This application helps us ensure the best candidates get to participate in the program and also helps us group participants with facilitators and other participants who may be a good match. We expect the application to take about 20 minutes to complete.

The Introductory EA Program will consist of 1.5-hour weekly discussions for 8 weeks with 3-5 participants and one facilitator (an experienced member of the effective altruism community). Before attending each discussion, you’ll complete a set of readings (and sometimes a brief written exercise). This reading group structures reading and discussion of Toby Ord's book The Precipice, which explores existential risks and safeguarding the future of humanity. Each week's reading will be one chapter of the book, and then you will have a weekly 1.5 hour discussion with 3-5 participants and a facilitator.
Our Career Planning Program lasts 6 weeks. Each week, you’ll have 1.5-hour discussions with a cohort of 4-8 participants and one facilitator. Before attending each discussion, you’ll complete some brief readings about what it means to have a high-impact career, as well as work through a set of written exercises to apply the ideas you’ve learnt to your own career planning (1.5 hours).
If you are interested in biosecurity or public policy, or want to test your fit in these areas, join us to read and discuss the book Biosecurity Dilemmas and work on a project with your peers! This program will run from 9 October - 4 December 2023. You can find more information about this program here.
